Yes, it's true. Tom Waits. Tonight at the Fox. Yippee!  It is a Tom Waits grey sort of day outside too.  I think I will wear something fancy just to celebrate such an unlikely thing as him being here in St. Louis and me actually being able to go.  Thanks to my dear other half, we have really good seats too.  The only thing that could make this day better is if I didn't have to work tomorrow.  But alas.

In other news, I have been looking in vain for some cool wooden toys for the house.  I really like old wooden toys but the ones I like always seem to be a bit pricey.  But I did find this old disheveled wooden duck that I am quite smitten with and it is only 15$.  I wish we had better thrift stores in town.  I'm always jealous when I read or hear about so and so going to some thrift store and getting some great item for like 3$. Totally unfair.  That is why when I travel, going to thrift stores is always on the agenda.

It's the Little (Sometimes Tiny) Things

There is something magical to me about buttons.  I love collecting them and anytime I am at a craft store or thrift store I am pulled inevitably to the buttons.  Bright reds, sunny yellows, creamy pearls, watery blues; glass, Bakelite, plastic, fabric-I have never met a button I didn't like.  The Internet is another place that I love to search for all sorts of lovely fasteners.  One of my favorite places is Mary Tilton's button page full of French goodies.  I love when you can get vintage buttons on the original cards.  The only thing is that the buttons on that site are pretty pricey-especially if you buy a whole card.  Alas.  Another great place for buttons online is Cute as a Button.  It has tons of buttons in all shapes, sizes, colors ect.   These super adorable tea pot buttons are tops and will soon be perking up a once unloved cardigan.  (photos of that transformation coming soon)  And if you are really looking for some amazing vintage and antique lovelies, Ruby Lane offers some tempting buttons as well as sewing notions.  It is a bit hit and miss (with me at least) when it comes to finding things I love at a price I can afford.  But every once in awhile I will stumble on some must have thing (like cherry red Bakelite buttons in perfect, unused condition *swoon*) that makes the hours of browsing worth it.  And lastly but not least-ly there is Primrose Designs.  Loads of pretty buttons at super reasonable prices.  I could spend a ton of money on their plastic button collection alone.  They also have other cute things like vintage kids goodies-including a Humpty Dumpty lamp that I am coveting like mad!
